senryu 2/26/09

I'm in a dark place
oppressive heaviness weighs
I slowly push through

best to keep busy
don't allow stray thoughts entrance
forget the past--right!

youthful high spirits
reined in and tightly controlled
in only an hour

sitting here watching
as they struggle with the test
I'm numbingly bored

senryu 2/23/09

Pins crash around me,
cacaphonous thundering.
My ball? Gutter-bound.

senryu 2/23/09

the ball is released--
down the alley's center rolls--
leaving one pin up

senryu 2/20/09

bright winter sunshine
cool breeze blows clouds across sky--
and I'm stuck inside

feeling most foolish
a gut overreaction
left egg on my face

suddenly on edge
filled with a dark foreboding
on a bright clear day

after a silence
the conversation resumes
as though no time passed

It always starts with
the best of intentions--then
the slippery slope.

an Electron in a Current

I go
With the flow

birthing new poems
has become more arduous
an absence of joy

senryu 2/04/09

searching out the words
that express who they are--or
who they'd like to be

slowly driven mad
your absence kills me slowly
one inch at a time

Portrait Poem 2/03/09

Art
tired, confused, concerned, behind
Father of Molly
Lover of family, free time, reading
Who feels perpetually behind on paperwork, stressed out about deadlines, relaxed when with family
Who needs self-discipline, more sleep, a time machine
Who gives unasked for advice, love to Molly, a hoot
Who fears losing my family, losing my sight, ending up alone
Who would like to see a change in my attitude, my great-grandchildren, the dawn of the next millennium

eluded by expertise

happily climbing, swinging
carefree childhood day
