a hand
reaches out
slow
halting
snatched back
as if from fire
as if from ice

reaches out
again
and again

each time
fingers singed
by frosty flames

each time
fingers numbed
by blazing bergs

frozen and burned
simultaneously

but still
reaches out
daunted
yet determined

to touch
to feel
the frigid forbidden fire
of its
denied
desire
